Hi, I’m Heather.

I believe that every young person deserves to be seen for who they truly are, not just the challenges they face. My approach to therapy is grounded in understanding, respect, and a belief in each person’s unique strengths. I know that sometimes life can feel overwhelming—especially when the world doesn’t quite fit the way you think or feel. That’s why I focus on making therapy practical, down-to-earth, and genuinely supportive for children, teens, young adults and families.

My background includes experience in both the Department of Education and private practice, working closely with young people and their families across Brisbane. I’m a registered psychologist with a Master of Professional Psychology, and I continue to build my knowledge with ongoing professional development—especially in areas like Neurodivergence, anxiety, and family support.

I work with children, adolescents, and young adults, as well as parents and carers. I believe in honest conversations, practical strategies, and celebrating every small step.

When I’m not working, I love reading, heading to the beach, and camping with my family. I look forward to meeting you and working together to help your young person find their strengths and confidence for the future.

Let’s work together for brighter days

We’re happy to answer your questions or help you book a first appointment, online or in person.

Our approach to supporting young minds

At Bright Futures Psychology, we believe every child and family has unique strengths, our job is to help you discover and build on them.

Our approach is neuroaffirming, evidence-based, and centred around what works best for each young person. We use a mix of practical, research-backed therapies, including:

  • Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT)
  • Acceptance & Commitment Therapy (ACT)
  • Play & creative therapies
  • Parent & family support sessions
  • Social skills and emotional regulation strategies

We know that mental health isn’t just about thoughts, it’s shaped by daily routines, school life, friendships, family relationships, and how a young person sees themselves. We work closely with parents and carers to make sure support is practical and fits real life.

Bright Futures Psychology is an inclusive, neuroaffirming, and welcoming practice. We celebrate diversity, including neurodivergence, and create a safe space for every family.

Therapy here is about more than just managing symptoms. It’s about helping young people understand themselves, build confidence, and find practical ways to handle life’s challenges. Whether your family is facing anxiety, big emotions, social struggles, or just needs a bit of extra support, we’re here to help.

Frequently Asked Questions

Starting out can bring up lots of questions. We’ve answered a few here, and we’re always happy to chat if there’s something else on your mind.

What ages do you work with?

We see children, teens, and young adults up to around 25 years old, as well as parents and carers. If you’re not sure if your young person is the right fit, just ask we’re happy to chat about your situation.

What happens in the first session?

We’ll spend some time getting to know you and what’s been happening at home or school. Together, we’ll talk about your hopes for coming in and what you’d like to change or work on.

There’s no pressure to share anything you’re not ready for. It’s also a chance for you to see if our approach feels right for your family.

Do you offer telehealth services?

Yes, we do offer telehealth appointments. You can access support from the comfort of your own home, which can make things easier for busy families or those who prefer not to travel. Telehealth may not be the best option for young children, but we’re happy to discuss this on a case-by-case basis.

Can you help with autism or ADHD assessments?

Yes, we offer assessments for autism, ADHD, and other learning differences. We use a strengths-based, neuroaffirming approach and will walk you through every step of the process, making it as clear and supportive as possible. Our assessments are individualised and not a one size fits all approach. If you are interested in an assessment, get in contact and we can provide more information.

What if I’m not sure what kind of help we need?

That’s completely okay. Many families come in not knowing exactly what to ask for. We’ll listen to what’s been happening and help you figure out what support might work best for your situation.
